Western South America, bordering the South Pacific Ocean, between Chile and Ecuador
Peru has three main geographical regions. The Pacific coast of Peru features deserts, beautiful beaches and fertile valleys.
The Highlands, dominated by the Andes mountain range rise to 22,204 feet above sea level at the peak of Muascaran. Peru shares control of Lake Titicaca, world's highest navigable lake, with Bolivia.
The jungle is an area of lush tropical vegitation, including the Peruvian section of the Amazon rainforest. Peruvian plant and animal life is hugely diverse. Peru is designated one of the eight 'megadiverse' countries, with 84 of the the planet's 104 life zones. There are over 1800 bird species in Peru, 120 of them are only found in this country.
Most tourists coming to Peru will want to see the Inca sites, especially Machu Picchu and Cusco.
